The Australian North Asia Correspondent Will Glasgow says the Taiwan midterms were local elections and not national presidential elections as the results went in favour of the party more closely aligned to China.
“It’s hyperlocal politics and this was really races between local politicians across Taiwan, so I wouldn’t read too much into that,” Mr Glasgow said.
“We’ll find out in a years time at the presidential elects in Taiwan, that will have huge international consequences, and in that one there will be nothing ambiguous about was China an influence.”
