Calliope Mori - UnAlive (Metal Remix)

“In death, I’m somehow more alive...“ After so long, Calli has finally released a full-length album, and oh boy does it deliver. UnAlive has some of my absolute favorite songs from her, with the title track being one of them. Calli’s flow is as tight as ever (I think she might be the first person to ever rap in 5/4, lol), and her singing has definitely improved, though she does sound like she’s straining herself a bit too hard in some places. Elliot Hsu’s instrumental is also great. Continuing with the prog metal inspirations, I decided to go with Symphony X for this song’s style. Their work isn’t too complex, but is still an excellent show of musicianship while being catchy as hell. They’re notable for incorporating elements of classical music in their songs, which I don’t think I managed to do right (the harmony section at 4:33 sounds more live A7X than Mozart), but there’s still keyboards for days in there.
