Fin Whale Calls in Seismic Data

VISIT OUR OFFICIAL YOUTUBE CHANNEL: OCEAN NETWORKS CANADA NEPTUNE Canada research theme integrator, Martin Heesemann, translated data from one of our ocean-bottom seismometers into an audio recording. The clip features fin whale calls (sped up 15x) which were detected by the seismometer. The whale stopped calling when the rumbles of a distant earthquake in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands were detected. The magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred in the Fox Islands at 9:46 UTC, 12 November 2010.
