Australia’s Great Lettuce Crisis Explained

LETTUCE SHORTAGE Australia is going through a great iceberg lettuce shortage because of the recent floods in New South Wales and Queensland. In fact the price of iceberg lettuce in supermarkets has gone from $ to a whopping $12 in some places. It’s so expensive that KFC has decided to replace the lettuce in its burgers with a lettuce/cabbage blend. Although they if you don’t like cabbage, you can go without. So why is this happening and why now? Well the big culprit is the floods and wet weather which have hit Queensland and NSW. It’s had a devastating impact on farmers and some lettuce growers have lost three crops in a row. This has put a huge strain on their businesses, and some small farmers are even thinking to close for good or sell to larger producers. With not much lettuce around, people are having to pay more.
