Bridget O’Malley - June Tabor [Traditional Folk Song with Score and Video]
Free PDF:
‘Bridget O’Malley’ (Brid Óg Ní Mháille) is an Irish song lamenting a lost love.
You can hear Hudie Devaney of Ranafast, Co Donegal singing it in Irish to Peter Kennedy and Sean O’Boyle in 1953 here:
This recording of Bridget O’Malley is taken from June Tabor’s performance at the Folkfestival in Köln in 1990, accompanied by Mark Emerson and Giles Levin on fiddle. She never produced a studio recording of the song.
Silly Wizard sang another English translation on their 1979 album So Many Partings. Here is their version:

TECHNICAL NOTES:
The metre should really be sort of relaxed 3/4, But I was going for accuracy, and I decided that rather than adding pauses everywhere, or just ignoring the nuances, it would make more sense to write exact note lengths and change the metre to reflect these nuances. This way it’s easy to understand how exactly the metre is “relaxed“.
I made a few minor mistakes, including the part where there are multiple 3/4 time signatures written in a row. I may re-upload this video at some point with corrections.
