More engine output and towing capacity have been added to the mid- and high-grade diesel 4x4 versions of the Toyota Hilux, bringing them closer in line with the best features of the Ford Ranger, which has been competing head-to-head with the Toyota Hilux for the title of best-selling vehicle in Australia for the past three years. The suspension of the Toyota Hilux, more notably the ride quality while it is unladen, has been improved so that it is more pleasant to live with, and the steering systems of the 4x4 variants have been retuned so that they are simpler to operate in urban environments.
