#southafrica #congo #rwanda Clashes involving militant groups over land and natural resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo have led to extrajudicial loss of lives, political violence, and rising tensions with neighboring Rwanda. Rwanda on the other hand is providing financial and material support to the M 23 Revolutionary Movement in D R Congo. South Africa has sent nearly 3 thousand troops to help tackle armed groups in war-torn D R Congo, which is one of the most volatile and resource-rich countries in the world. The Congolese revolutionary army, also known as M 23, has been advancing on the regional capital of Goma, forcing nearly 50 thousand people out of their homes. The name M 23 is a short form for the March twenty-third Movement, which is mostly made up of Tutsis. On March 23, 2009, the National Congress for the Defense of the People, C N D P, signed a treaty with the Congolese government and became a political party, and its soldiers joined the National Army.
