PIETRO SPADA plays “10 Chorale Preludes“ from the “Orgelbüchlein (Little Organ Book)“ by JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH, transcribed for the piano by FERRUCCIO BUSONI. Busoni decided to transcribe 10 out of the 46 Chorale Preludes as part of his “Übertragungen“ (transcriptions, rather than just adaptations) of organ pieces by Bach for performance on the piano. An eleventh Chorale Prelude “Aus Tiefer Not Schrei Ich Zu Dir“ BWV686 was attempted, but never properly finished. Most of the Orgelbüchlein was written between 1708 and 1717 and serves as a set of liturgical organ music containing Lutheran hymns, most of the time as the “Cantus Firmus“.
