🎵 Handel - Zadok the Priest (Coronation Anthem) // Pipe Organ Sheet Music

Today is 4th May 2023 – two days before the Coronation of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023. I wanted to find an organ solo arrangement of this piece (which is synonymous with the Coronation of the British Monarch) but couldn’t find one which matched my own personal requirements. Queue an idea for a new arrangement! This arrangement is available to purchase from In arranging the 1st of the 4 Coronation Anthems, Zadok the Priest, I have tried to strike an agreeable balance between the orchestra and choir. The orchestra doesn’t merely duplicate the choral writing but is often quite independent. Including everything would be impractical and in my view wasteful. The infamous passages in the 3rd movement ’God save the King’ containing many 3rds have been omitted because they become quite muddy when playing quickly and with a full organ sound. Of course, also they’re blooming hard! I have decided to omit any registration suggestions simply because this piece is so incredibly well-known that we’ll all have our own ideas on how to register it. The original manuscript is available on the British Library website, and it’s interesting to note that the 1st movement starts with the direction ‘Soft’ before indicating ‘Loud’ at bar 23. It’s therefore safe to assume that a crescendo through the introduction is authentic. Much love and dedication has gone into this transcription, and I hope that you are able to seek as much enjoyment from playing it as I did from creating it. Long live the King! The organ used for this recording is my favourite sample set - the Surround version of Dudelange by Voxus. Epic!
