Slow vs. fast gear change - and the reasons

This clip compares two mainshafts taken from a vintage JAWA motorcyle made in the 1960s. One was made million times for normal standard bikes and the other for competition bikes in an attempt to allow faster shifting. Look if and how it works… Modern motorcycle gearboxes a designed differntly and mostly support very rapid shifts anyways. But the technical principle remain the same.
