SURFACE PRESSURE - AMANDA PALMER (w JHEREK BISCHOFF & THE BLACK QUARTET)

This recording started as a jokey suggestion on one of my patron-only webcasts and then evolved into a DARE. I took the dare. My son, Ash, who is six, is OBSESSED with Encanto and I’d already heard the soundtrack 357 times. The first time I saw Luisa sing this in the film, I cracked inside. I FELT VERY VALIDATED, especially after being a solo parent for a year in a foreign country because of Covid. The recording was made over the course of one VERY LONG day (Feb 22nd, 2022, at Roundhead Studios in Aoteraoa New Zealand), and every second of the process was streamed live to my 12,000 patrons who acted as virtual sounding boards and cheerleaders for me, the studio crew, the Black Quartet, and the arranger/conductor Jherek Bischoff who beamed in from Los Angeles for the whole thing (in a Tuxedo, with a candelabra, in the living room).
