The Beach Boys How Did They Get Their Name

The Beach Boys – How did they get their name? While they were still in High School Brian Wilson and his cousin Mike Love, performed as a band, Love gave this early band their first name, The Pendletones. This was a mashup of then popular Pendleton shirts and the word tones referencing Music. They recorded two demo surfing songs that there acting manager took to a record company. The boys were hoping that the popular Pendleton shirts manufacturer would look on them with favor and sponsor the group, evidently the boys, thought that the Pendleton shirt company which made checkered wool shirts and jackets might give them free shirts and jackets. Oh, life was so much simpler then, not get big and famous and rich, they just wanted some free shirts. Dennis Wilson was the only real surfer in the group at the time and it was his suggestion that they sing about the surfing culture that was super popular in southern California at the time.
