NEW YORK PROMO VIDEO - SLADE - BIG APPLE BLUES

This is an ode to one of the best bands in the history of rock music: SLADE! “Big Apple Blues“ is one of many terrific songs by this phantastic rock band, one of many, hardly known songs, because most people only know their HITS. I think it’s not fair to describe Slade merely as a “glamrock band“, because in the periods before and after this glamrock period they have written and produced many, many top quality songs! This song “Big Apple Blues“ originates from the period “just after“. It comes from Slade’s 1977 album “Whatever Happened To Slade“. This album did not enter the charts, although it is considered one of Slade’s best albums by many fans. The reason for the lack of succes was this: after a 2 years’ stay in the USA (they lived in New York, the “Big Apple“, what this song is about) Slade returned to the UK, early 1977. Here the music business had much changed from the way they left it. Punk had now exploded and had become the dominant influence on youth culture and the music press. Despite Slade’s reputation as one of the great high energy bands of their day, in this environment Slade had become irrelevant. “Whatever Happened to Slade“ was released March 1977 to no airplay and very little press. It failed to chart. It was the group’s lowest-selling LP to date. Thanks for watching, Vincent Smeets, Sladefan for life.
