Mercy, Mercy, Mercy!

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! was written by Austrian pianist Joe Zawinul when he was a member of Cannonball Adderly’s band. The tune became the title track of their popular album on Capitol Records Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Live at “The Club“ in 1967. The song went to number two on the Soul chart and number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance in 1967, and was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2021. And incidentally, this was one of the first records I ever bought. I still think it’s pretty amazing.
