How to Paint a Realistic Wave in Oils or Acrylics Tutorial

This painting time-lapse tutorial shows how to paint a realistic ocean wave in oils or painting was created Alla Prima, in one sitting and took me about 4 hours to complete. I used a reference photo of a breaking wave from a cloudy morning on Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. I used the following oil colors for this demo (you can easily use acrylics here, just add more water or a slow-drying medium): titanium white, ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and sap green. I used mineral spirits as a medium and the following brushes: a medium size synthetic, medium bristle, a small round brush, an old round bristle brush and a wide bristle brush for blending.
