Accompanied by double bassist François Rabbath, Barbara plays the piano and sings. 0:00 Intro, 0:34 B - ’Le temps du lilas’, 2:47 FR - ’Désert’, 5:30 B - ’Dis, quand reviendras-tu?’, 8:34 FR - ’Prélude à l’archet’, 10:29 B - ’J’entends les clairons sonner’, 12:06 FR - ’Ode d’Espagne’, 14:20 B - ’Paris 15 août’ and 16:46 FR - Creasy Course (’Nantes’ was sadly blocked by the copyright owner.) Broadcast 18/7/1964 on Belgian TV. If, like me you haven’t heard of François Rabbath - don’t skip him! He makes wonderful sounds with his double-bass, very contemporary and without the jazz cliches you might expect of a double-bass player. He must be a candidate for sampling. And wonderfully, he’s still with us, aged 92 in 2023, giving lessons and interviews - a world-famous bassist. Barbara sadly died in 1997 aged 67. A huge star in French-speaking countries with million-selling albums, a friend of Jacques Brel, she’s been covered in English by Marc Almond and Martha Waiwright amongst others.
