Venice is flooded by the highest tides since 1960s

Venice was submerged by choppy water as the highest tide since 1966 hit the city leaving tourists and locals to wade through the streets and in St Mark’s Square. A flood alarm sounded across the city when the ’acqua alta,’ or high waters, peaked at six feet ( metres). Venice’s mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, said he would declare a state of disaster for the city.
