Aikido technique SHIHONAGE, the OMOTE and URA forms, by Stefan Stenudd
Here is the aikido technique shihonage applied against a few basic grip and strike attacks. There are two versions of shihonage: omote (front) and ura (back). I show both versions. The difference is where you go – in front of or behind the attacker.
Shihonage (四方投げ) is one of the basic aikido throwing techniques (nage waza). Its name - “four directions throw“ - indicates the link to the Japanese sword arts, where shihogiri (four directions cut) is a basic exercise. Shihonage is done in a way quite similar to cutting with katana, the two-handed Japanese sword.
