The Fastnet Disaster of 1979

August 1979 saw one of the biggest rescue operations since World War Two when a ferocious storm coincided with the Fastnet Race. Alongside the RNLI, the RAF, Royal Navy, Irish Air Force and other services worked tirelessly to save nearly 100 lives.
