Description: China and Saudi Arabia signed agreements worth about US$29 billion on December 8, 2022, during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s first visit to the Middle East nation since 2016. The deals include one with China’s tech giant Huawei, despite security concerns raised by the US over the firm’s growing foray into the Gulf region. Xi met Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a trip described as opening “a new era” in Beijing’s relationship with the Gulf region.
