Quick facts about this gelatinous deep sea creature! The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus, Mr. Blobby)! Blobfish facts! Family Psychrolutidae. Commonly mistaken for the blob sculpin (Psychrolutes phrictus) and named the world’s ugliest animal 2013.
Due to a fraudulent dispute by somebody that has a lot more money and power than me, I had to trim out the first 40 seconds of this video. Continue reading below to see the beginning of the script that you missed.
“The blobfish is endemic to the deep waters surrounding Australia and Tasmania. Little is known about this strange looking fish since it lives in depths ranging from 2000 to 4000 ft (600 to 1200 m). Pressure at such depths is 120 times that of the surface. The blobfish’s body consists of gelatinous flesh with very little muscle. This jelly-like flesh is very common in deep sea organisms, as it enables them to survive in such high pressures. In its natural habitat, the blobfish looks a lot like a regular fish.”
