Puberty blockers are powerful medication given to children with gender dysphoria. They ’pause’ puberty to give children and their parents more time. But these drugs are used off licence, the long term side effects are unknown, and studies suggest they can negatively affect children’s psychological well being. Research also shows that if these children DO go through puberty naturally, ±80% will resolve their gender dysphoria. So why are more and more kids being medicalised, sometimes as young as 8 or 10? Could it be that they know over 95% of kids who go on blockers also eventually go onto cross-sex hormones, and subsequently surgeries, whereas if they’d go through puberty most of them wouldn’t? Are blockers really buying time, or effectively a one-way ticket for the Transition Train?
