This is a rundown of every hit song present on the MuchMusic Countdown in 2009. Let’s bring some Canadiana to nostalgia playlists! These have been my pet projects for a while because I’m a bit obsessed with old-school MuchMusic/can-con in general. In 2009, it seems Much was refocused on a tween audience, so Bieber, Disney stars (the JoBros even hosted the MMVAs) and very pop pop-punk abounds. A certain Degrassi-turned-rap star from the 6ix you’ve probably never heard of makes his debut, along with Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Jason Derulo. Lady Gaga is the biggest star in the world and lights up the MMVAs with her fireworks bra. Rock is declining in popularity, save for the indie scene. Rap is also poppier than ever.
