However, as I’ve delved into timber framing, and more outdoor applications of woodworking, softwoods and more rustic design have begun to appeal to me more. Enter this outdoor speakeasy style gate build from western red cedar. Speakeasy style doors and gates are defined for the most part by a porthole that can be looked through to see to the other side. Traditionally, these are done with a mini door that can be opened and shut to keep unwanted visitors out. This commission included three rustic cedar gates, one with a proper speakeasy door, one without, and a small doggie style door (no pun intended) for a modern yet historic home here in South Florida.
