Putin Laughs at Suggestion to Export Pork to Muslim Majority Indonesia

Vladimir Putin couldn’t hold his laughter in when Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachov suggested exporting pork to Muslim-majority Indonesia. During the October 13 meeting on the development of agriculture, Tkachov proposed increasing pork production for exports to China and Indonesia. Putin responded, “Indonesia is a Muslim country. They do not eat pork there.” Tkachov defended his proposal saying, “It does not matter. They will eat it.” Through his laughter, Putin responded, “They won’t.” In the Muslim religion, eating pork is prohibited.
