Russia’s Black Sea Fleet ships took part in snap drills near Sevastopol on Wednesday, the Russian Defence Ministry reported.
According to the ministry, a detachment comprising of a frigate, minesweeper, corvettes and other unspecified ships conducted a training session to overcome a conventional minefield and also rehearsed firing on surface-level enemies.
The ministry also said that that the manoeuvres involved aircraft and helicopters as well as air defence units.
The drills come amid unconfirmed reports that US warships were also headed to the region.
On Tuesday, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed that the US and NATO are moving troops from North America to “the Russian borders.“
