Here We Go! 1st Snow of the Season, Off-Grid Solar Electricity Installation, Hanging the Front Door

Peak autumn color is quickly replaced by a blanket of snow as I continue preparing the cabin for winter. Outside, I install the last metal roof panel and a ridge cap on the breezeway, install an adjustable steel racking system for the solar panels beside the greenhouse and dig a trench for the cables to run back to the cabin. Inside, I finish assembling the door to the front porch and hang it on hinges, temporarily placing the wood insert that will be relief-carved over the winter. In the basement, I insulate the cellar walls and cover one wall in 1’ pine boards to install the solar inverter, panel and batteries and I move the water storage tank into place. Before finishing the insulation on the main floor, I run the wiring for lights and switches and take stock of what hardware items I need to finish the electrical system for installation this week.
