In this video I’m discussing some of the available evidence for Viking Age berserkers. Both the archaeological material and the written sources have certain limitations and leave plenty of uncertainties. Interpretation and speculation can conjure different possible historical scenarios, and we have to keep in mind that it’s impossible to know with complete certainty who these warriors were and exactly how they operated before and during battles.
“Going berserk“ might mean something else nowadays than it did in the Middle Ages.
