WHY ALTER A PERFECTLY GOOD DOMINANT CHORD? Jazz Tactics #20

Altering a dominant chord magnifies its natural inclination to resolve by providing additional harmonic pathways. In this episode I explain and demonstrate the three most common alterations that are applied to a dominant chord (one of which is a combination of the other two), and the scales which contain the same alterations. In the next episode, I’ll show how these scales impact an improvised melodic line. CONFUSED?
