Happy Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 in a number of countries. And it’s also celebrated by the United Nations. The day historically appeared at the beginning of the 20th century as a day of women’s solidarity in the struggle for emancipation. The day is a national or state holiday and a day off in many countries. Celebrating March 8 in Russia includes a well-established tradition of giving women flowers and other gifts to honor motherhood, beauty, and spring. Roses and spring flowers, especially tulips and lilies of the valley, and images of a mother with a child are the most common symbols of International Women’s Day in Russia. These symbols are often depicted in the greeting cards and postcards that men traditionally give or send women on March 8.
