Production on Scream 6 2023 is well underway, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett returning in addition to scream 2022 surviving stars Courteney Cox, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. The film is also bringing back Scream 4 fan favorite Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, and adding Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Liana Liberato, Josh Segarra, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, and Henry Czerny to the scream 6 cast. The huge scream 6 news has of course been centered on Neve Campbell, who has confirmed she will not be returning to play Sidney Prescott in Scream 6 despite having been involved in every previous scream movie, making Courteney Cox the only film actor to participate in all six Scream movie installments. Audiences have been wanting a scream 6 Stu Macher reveal and many thought the villain would finally reappear in Scream 2022. While they were disappointed, there may be a very logical reason for Stu’s absence in Scream 5. Stu is part of Woodsboro’s legacy, both because he is a town local but also because he is one of the original Ghostface killers. Changing location for Scream 6 not only makes sense for the franchise, which is always reinventing itself, but also for the characters of the series who have suffered so much trauma in Woodsboro. In Scream 5, Gale Weathers came back to Woodsboro primarily to make sure Dewey was safe, while Sidney only came back because she wanted to end the spree for the sake of Dewey and the safety of her children. Now that Dewey is dead, neither has a logical reason to return. This applies to scream 6 Kirby Reed too, who returns after narrowly surviving her ordeal in Scream 4. Scream 6 rumors say Stu’s only chance at revenge is to somehow lure the Scream 6 cast into an unknown area where he wouldn’t be recognized - something impossible in Woodsboro - to finally end the story arc of the Scream horror movie franchise.
