“I’ll Be Gone“ is one of several songs I especially like from the 1987 Tom Waits LP “Franks Wild Years.“ The age of vinyl was winding to a close, and this album was among some of my best purchases for the 1985-1990 period. This is an incredibly zany song with too many improbable lyrics. Still, the music itself speaks to one as do certain lines here and there. Departure time is always dark somehow, regardless of the shifting scenes.
The video is fairly free form with comic, narrative and performance taking turns. Some of the film clips used seemed especially appropriate for the cabaret-like accordion accompaniment, especially the dance-related ones. For your hopeful amusement.
