The Charleston, in Winifred Atwell’s arrangement

This is my attempt to play Winifred Atwell’s arrangement of ’The Charleston’ at a recital I gave for the Billy Mayerl Society at Shellwood in 2003. My playing may be riddled with wrong notes and at least one cop-out where Winnie’s version is just too difficult for my fingers and I’ve had to substitute my own, but it’s probably faster than I could manage now (!). I hope it captures at least some of the flavour of her remarkable arrangement. It is reproduced here by kind permission of Mike Lorenzini, who hosted the concert and made the video recording.
