Palestinians hold Friday prayers in Jerusalem street under heavy restriction

Palestinians held Friday prayers on December 1 in the street overlooking Al-Aqsa compound due to heavy restrictions set by the Israeli police since the Oct. 7 attack. Israeli forces tightened security for Palestinians hoping to pray in Al Aqsa, making it hard for many to get into the compound, the third-holiest site in Islam after Mecca and Medina. The hill on which the mosque sits is the most sacred site for Jews who call it the Temple Mount. The area is often the scene of clashes. Israeli authorities have restricted access to the site for Palestinians to pray since the Hamas assault on southern Israel on Oct. 7 and Israel’s siege and ground operation in Gaza in retaliation. n18oc_world n18oc_crux CRUX is your daily video news guide to the big events that are shaping our world.
