Part of a recital Cziffra gave in Argentina in the 1970s. The works were by Hummel, Chopin, Schumann (Carnaval and Toccata) and Liszt.
Cziffra is on demonic and capricious form in these three pieces by Liszt.
Gnomenreigen was always a Cziffra favourite and his tempo is rapid and frenetic.
The Valse-Impromptu was another favourite and here is performed with a delightfully teasing caprice.
The Transcendental Study ’Appassionata’ is played with a fiery passion and yearning intensity that has the audience cheering Cziffra to the rafters.
