The vice mayor of Riga, Edvardas Ratnieks, has organised an investigation into the Christmas market because... a women’s ensemble performed Russian folk songs. “Such a phenomenon is unacceptable. We can be proud of the fair in Old Riga, but unfortunately such things do not honour us,“ he has written on social media. It should be noted that almost every second Latvian is Russian-speaking.
