The Shining - The Unauthorized Director’s Cut

I don’t own The Shining, The Matrix, Die Hard, or many of the other assets that were borrowed to make this crazy mash-up a reality. I believe this to be a parody and fall under “fair use,“ and the material has been fundamentally altered and this product no longer represents (i.e. is not a substitute for) The Shining. This a 15 minute comedic mash-up video; a very abridged remix of a dark, psychological horror film. Many jokes also play up specific aspects of The Shining that have been discussed in many academic (and entertainment-oriented) papers and videos dissecting the film. This includes the art direction and set design, the conspiracy that The Shining is Stanley Kubrick’s coded way of dealing with his guilt over faking the moon landing, and more. It’s all in good fun and I hope it will be received that way. This was a project I’d experimented with for a long time, and I just wanted to share it. This evolved into more of a remix/mash-up than I initially intended when I set out to to cut a Shining YTP. Wound up taking about a thousand times longer to cut, too, but it was an excellent way to force myself to try some new things across Premiere and After Effects. It’s basically a series of vignettes, and if you don’t find one funny, you could try scrolling ahead and you may find something you like. Or you may hate the whole thing. But I hope you find something to enjoy here.
