Class 313 train switching between overhead wire & 3rd rail

The British Railways class 313 trains can operate from either 25,000v ac overhead wire or 750v dc third rail. The North London Line (’London Overground’) service between Richmond and Stratford is one of several routes in London used by twin system trains such as these. This view comes from Dalston Kingsland station, which until 2010 was one of the changeover points. It was filmed in the evening rush hour. More information about railway electrification systems (and their use here in Britain) can be found on this web page IMPORTANT NOTES !! 1) In 2010 the route was converted to overhead wire only and the third rail dc power supply system was removed. Nowadays trains change between 3rd rail and AC power at Acton Central, in west London. 2) Services are now operated by Class 378 trains - the Class 313’s have been removed from this route.
