US Army UH-60 Blackhawk in Ft. Meyers for Hurricane Ian Rescue Effort

On Saturday, October 1st, I witnessed a US Army UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter circling around a Publix parking lot. It got closer and closer until I realized that it was landing. When it touched down, roughly 8 Firefighters jumped off, likely to have been helping out with the Search and Rescue efforts on Sanibel Island just a few miles down the road due to Hurricane Ian. Part of the road(Sanibel Causeway) to Sanibel Island is collapsed, making rescue efforts difficult and requiring boats or aircraft to remove people in need of rescue from the Island. The helicopter is likely an Army National Guard helicopter from either a Florida or Louisiana base as the LND recently sent Guardsman as well as a UH-60 to Florida to help with the Hurricane Ian response at the request of the Florida Department of Emergency Management. Please feel free to comment if you have any further information on the aircraft model or specific info on this crew’s unit. “Ian made landfall Wednesday on Florida’s west coast as a powerful Category 4 hurricane with 150 mph winds. The storm flooded homes, cut off a popular barrier island and left nearly 2.7 million people without power as it crossed the panhandle before moving over the Atlantic and turning north.“-Military Times. “MIAMI, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The death toll from Hurricane Ian climbed past 80 on Sunday as embattled residents in Florida and the Carolinas faced a recovery expected to cost tens of billions of dollars, and some officials faced criticism over their response to the storm. The death toll was expected to keep rising as floodwaters receded and search teams pushed farther into areas initially cut off from the outside world. Hundreds of people have been rescued as emergency workers sifted through homes and buildings inundated with water or completely washed away.“-Reuters For licensing, please email isaiah@ Website: Instagram:
