LIVE: Russian Ambassador to UN Nebenzya holds press briefing as Russia assumes SC presidency

Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya holds a press briefing in New York City on Tuesday, February 1, as Russia assumes the presidency of the Security Council. The country is taking over the presidency in the council amid heightened tensions on the Russia-Ukraine border and high-level discussions about sanctions that a number of countries, including the US and UK, are planning to impose on Russia in case of invasion. UNSC gathered to discuss the Ukraine question on Monday on the US request. The briefing will be held in a hybrid format due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.​
