In the same year the song was composed, it was used as title song for a Chinese-Japanese TV series Farewell, Lixianglan. The TV drama told the story of a Japanese woman, Yoshiko Yamaguchi, born in China in 1920. Hiding her Japanese identity, she rose to stardom in China, mostly taking parts in propaganda movies representing China. At the end of WWII, Yoshiko was arrested for treason and collaboration with the Japanese and was sentenced to death.
