La Palma volcano: Video shows new strombolian eruption, police rescue dog from volcanic zone

Spanish officials captured video of the Cumbre Vieja’s latest eruption on Thursday, with the Canary Islands Volcanological Institute saying lava was covering previous streams as opposed to new areas of La Palma island. Meanwhile, members of Spain’s Military Emergency Unit took to one community to help clean up ash that had covered buildings and roads, even as the volcano showed no signs of stopping its eruptions. A member of the Spanish Guardia Civil also became a canine hero on Wednesday after he rescued a dog from the volcanic exclusion area surrounding the volcano, helping it into a vehicle and taking him to a local shelter to be cared for.
