RetroSynth Lazersteel Records Proudly Presents: millhope - Magnetic millhope millhope is German-born producer and composer Thomas Mühlhoff. Millhope sees his instrumental music as a constantly available “source for daydreaming, curiosity, hope and idleness“. His ingredients are catchy synthesizer melodies and spherical guitar lines pushed by driving drums and striking bass. Ask him about his genre and he says: “I like the dreamy elements of Tycho’s album “Dive“, the spintane and jammed parts of Genesis’s album “Abacab“, Jonny Buckland’s (Coldplay) lead guitars and Muse’s synth arpeggios.“ Or as Andreas Schiffmann of once wrote about him “The man must have listened to a lot of Robert Fripp...“ So what is it? I’ll put my finger on it now: chillwave meets ambient rock meets downbeat. An additional feature of millhope’s music are the subtle but ever present insertions of field recording elements. Not only nature-related sound collages like birds or ocean noise are used but also samples of everyday objects and the instruments with which the music is produced. A certain haptic fetish millhope admits to himself: “The PATCH NUMBER button, for example, is simply a beautiful part of the Juno-60 with a sound and feel all its own.“ millhope’s music is meant to sound like “produced“ music in the context of a studio recording. There are few elements that don’t seem manipulated and shaped. When asked about this, he says, “Studio should sound like studio to me, live like live. I consider the two forms of presentation as two different formats, the difference is important to me. The music should be intense on headphones as well as seem live. But both require different techniques.“ Since there has been no live show yet, it remains exciting to see how the music will sound performed live. Support the Artist: Support RetroSynth: Follow Us:
