Tons of runs come from the pentatonic scale (1 2 3 5 6). For our purposes, we’ll break down the pentatonic scale into a series of 3 note chunks that we can use like melodic building blocks. For creating and singing fast vocal riffs and runs, this approach is extraordinarily effective and describes a staggering number of runs you’ll come across.
