Have we been told the truth about our reality

Since science fiction has been a genre, humans have theorized that they and all of the others on earth were not, in fact, real. The book The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy brilliantly pointed out that the world that is so well known and loved could simply be a computer or a simulation instead of real life. The movie The Matrix pointed this out showing humans all connected to a computer and living their life through there, never knowing that how they were living wasn’t the absolute truth. These people all seemed to think and talk for themselves and they all seemed to be independently acting, just as the people of this world do. Yet, everything they did and said was essentially a lie. Even now, with humans having created games like The Sims, some wonder if humans her are just The Sims of someone else’s universe.
