Thousands Out On Tehran’s Streets For Raisi’s Funeral After Iran President Killed In Chopper Crash
On Tuesday, May 21, thousands of mourners gathered in Tabriz to honor Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, May 19. The crash, which occurred in mountainous terrain amid heavy fog, claimed the lives of Raisi and seven others, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.
The streets of Tabriz were filled with grief-stricken citizens, many holding posters of Raisi. The procession included police officers and air force personnel, reflecting the national significance of the loss.
Iranian media outlined plans for Raisi’s funeral ceremonies, which will take place from Tuesday to Thursday in Tabriz, Qom, Tehran, and Birjand. His final burial will be held at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.
The charred remains of the Bell 212 helicopter were discovered on Monday after an extensive overnight search conducted in blizzard conditions. The Iranian authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the crash near the Azerbaijan border.
