Hezbollah fires overnight barrage of 20 rockets towards northern Israel

Hezbollah fired 20 rockets towards northern Israel on Monday night, targeting the northern city of Kiryat Shmona and other areas. The Israeli army said that most of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defence system, with no casualties reported. Hezbollah said the barrage was in response to the killing of an operative and two Lebanese civilians during an Israeli attack on a weapons depot in Bint Jbeil. Israeli forces responded to the attack with fighter jet attacks on towns in south Lebanon early on Tuesday, according to an army statement. Tensions have been rising in recent weeks on the Israel-Lebanon border, with Hezbollah and the Israeli army exchanging cross-border fire almost daily.
