Allegro molto, quasi Presto Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 2 in G major, Op. 18 No. 2, was composed in 1799, published in 1801, and dedicated, along with the other five quartets of Op. 18, to Prince Joseph Franz von Lobkowitz. Chronologically, it is the third of Beethoven’s first six quartets and is sometimes referred to as the Complimenterquartett. Third in the order of composition, sketches of this quartet are mixed with those of the Variations for piano four hands WoO 74, written in May 1799 for Josephine and Therese of Brunswick.
