That Other Guy | Track 8 of Fay | Malingo

This track was hard to write, and I almost didn’t include it in the album because it was a little too emotionally heavy. However, it is an important part of her and my story. In this song, I reflect on my own feelings as my mom was living in a memory care unit - sadness, anger, confusion, and mostly regret. The title comes from a time when she referred to me as “that other guy” because she had forgotten my name. That moment in 2016 was a wake-up call - I knew I would need to process and grieve the changes she was going through, and it was what spurred me to start writing songs as a coping mechanism.
