Russia Deploys Punishment Battalions, Ukraine’s First Underground School In Kharkiv To Shield Pupils

Drunk recruits, insubordinate soldiers and convicts are among hundreds of Russian soldiers sent to the most dangerous parts of the frontline in so-called Storm Z squads, according to 13 people with knowledge of the matter, including five fighters. Echoing “punishment battalions“ created by Josef Stalin for those soldiers who left their posts during the Second World War, Storm Z soldiers are treated like “just meat“ by the Kremlin, one fighter from army unit 40318 said.
